Rental Cars

Set up player-owned rental businesses with fleet purchases, deposits, returns, and staff access.

Rental Cars

Rental Cars lets players run a rental business with vehicles they purchase for its fleet. Customers choose a vehicle and rental period, pay the fee and deposit, and return it to the branch. Owners manage stock, rates, staff, and business funds.

What you need

  • OneSync and Qbox (qbx_core).
  • ox_lib, oxmysql, and qbx_vehiclekeys.
  • A working database connection and the vehicle models in your catalog.

Keep the resource folder named rw_rentalcars. Start dependencies first:

ensure ox_lib
ensure oxmysql
ensure qbx_core
ensure qbx_vehiclekeys
ensure rw_rentalcars

The resource creates the rw_rentalcars database table on startup. There is no separate SQL file to import for a normal first install.

Set up your first business

  1. Install the resource and review shared/config.lua before starting it.
  2. Check the desk, return point, and vehicle spawn bays for the branch on your map.
  3. Start the resource, then assign an owner from the server console:
rentalowner airport YOUR_CITIZEN_ID
  1. Replace YOUR_CITIZEN_ID with the character's citizen ID, not a server/player ID. The shipped branch IDs are airport and sandy.
  2. Visit the desk as the owner and press E, or use /rentals nearby.
  3. Deposit business funds, purchase fleet stock, set hourly rates, and open the business.
  4. Test checkout and return with a separate customer character.

Assigning an owner leaves the business closed and clears staff assignments. Fleet vehicles must be purchased; the catalog does not provide free stock.

In-game ownership and recovery commands require the permission named by Config.AdminAce, which defaults to rw_rentalcars.admin. The server console can use administrator commands without an in-game ACE grant.

Renting and returning a vehicle

Customers choose an available model and rental period at the desk. The quote includes the rental fee and deposit. The default allowed periods are 30, 60, 120, and 240 real-world minutes.

If every pickup bay is blocked, the paid rental can remain as a reservation for later collection. The default reservation window is twenty minutes. Expired reservations release stock and save a full refund credit for the character to collect.

To return a rental, bring the vehicle to the return point, stop it, and have everyone get out. The player and vehicle must be within the configured return radius. Late and damage charges can reduce the deposit refund.

Early returns are allowed by default, but don't refund the rental fee. Use /rentalreturn for return guidance and /rentalextend to extend an eligible active rental before its due time. Both command names are configurable.

Configuration files

FileWhat to change
shared/config.luaBusinesses, fleet catalog, prices, deposits, durations, permissions, locations, and interface settings.
web/locale.jsInterface wording and translations.
Config.Text in the Lua configurationNotification translations keyed by their original English text.

Restart the resource after editing. Startup validation rejects invalid settings and identifies the problem rather than silently accepting them.

Fleet catalog and locations

Config.Catalog defines each model's stable ID, label, category, vehicle model, wholesale price, default hourly rate, deposit, and owner rate bounds. Each entry in Config.Businesses chooses the catalog IDs that branch offers.

The shipped catalog includes Blista, Prairie, Sultan, Granger, and Faggio. Custom models must already be installed and streamed on your server. Use automobile or bike as the supported vehicle entity type.

Desks use vec4(x, y, z, heading), return points use vec3(x, y, z), and spawn bays use vec4. The first clear spawn bay is used. Test heading, height, and clearance on your map; the supplied airport and Sandy locations may need adjustment for your interiors.

Keep business and catalog IDs stable once they're in use. Return active rentals and retire unwanted stock before removing entries. Don't lower fleet capacity below the stock the business already owns.

Owners' saved hourly rates persist across restarts. Changing a catalog's default rate doesn't replace an existing owner rate. Deposit, fee, and deduction terms are stored on each contract, so configuration changes don't rewrite those terms on active rentals.

Staff and business features

Assign employees by citizen ID through Team access. Owners have every permission. The default manager can handle stock, pricing, business status, reports, and deposits; the default clerk can handle business status and reports. Neither role can withdraw funds or hire employees by default.

Grant staff only to trusted management: it allows assignment of any configured role. stock also grants overdue repossession access.

Settings tableWhat it adds
DeliveriesOptional supplier runs for purchased fleet vehicles; disabled by default.
MaintenancePaid servicing and turnaround time; enabled by default.
RecoveryRecovery of missing vehicles into servicing, with configurable fees and deposit handling.
ReservationsPickup expiry and saved refund credits.
ExtensionsAdditional rental time within the configured total duration limit.
GuidanceReturn routing, HUD information, and reminders.
ReportingSaved receipts and daily business reports.

If something isn't working

Customers see no available vehicles: check that the business is open, owns stock, and offers that catalog entry. A model's presence in the catalog alone doesn't make it available.

A rental won't spawn: check the model and pickup-bay clearance. Paid reservations allow customers to collect later rather than paying for another rental.

A return is rejected: check that both player and vehicle are near the return point, the vehicle is stopped, and all occupants have left it.

The owner can't manage the desk: check their character citizen ID and the selected branch. /rentals is location-bound, not remote business access.

An ownership transfer is rejected: finish existing rental contracts and resolve any pending transaction before changing owners.

The business locks after a database problem: restore database access and inspect the server logs. Administrator journal commands exist for reconciliation; don't guess a financial recovery action or repeatedly replay transfers.
